AI servers produce concentrated heat, and many facilities use water because evaporative or liquid-assisted cooling can remove that heat efficiently. Water can carry heat away from computing equipment, reject heat through cooling towers, or support chilled-water systems.
Not every facility uses the same approach. Some rely mostly on outside air or closed refrigerant loops, while high-density AI systems increasingly use liquid delivered close to chips. The final water footprint depends on how that captured heat is rejected and on the water intensity of the electricity supply.
